Stop the Fee Increase

This year, USAC is working on four key issues: ensuring affordability for students, promoting holistic education where all students are guaranteed great teaching, research and public service experiences, working for student empowerment where students are recognized as decision-makers in every aspect of our education, and creating diverse, unified, and safe spaces for everyone.

While we are working to advocate for affordable undergraduate education, in a few weeks, the UC Regents will vote to increase our student fees an additional 5-10% next year! For many students, this additional $600-$1000 a quarter will mean more loans, more hours at work, and less time to do what you do best... be an amazing UCLA student.

On national average, tuition rises at about 8% per year; for the UC, we remember the dramatic 32% tuition increase just last year. As students, we must question these consecutive tuition hikes. Regardless of the outcome of the November Regents meeting, we must engage in whatever small ways we can as Bruins, to show the UC and California how much affordable, quality education really means.

While we are meeting with both Regents and Legislators, we can't give light to how these issues are affecting you, without your help. Here are some concrete steps you can take to defend public education:

  1. Sign this petition & tell your parents to do so also! Educate your families on the issue!
  2. Make Your Imprint - this Tuesday & Wednesday, find our table in Bruin Plaza to make a few phone calls, join a flashmob for fees and get more information.
  3. Email usaevp@asucla.ucla.edu if you'd like to go the Regents meeting in San Francisco!
  4. Join the conversation or start the debate on the official 'Stop Increases' facebook page.
